Rhossi Carron and Basketball University hosted the Adidas Regional Qualifier in DFW on Memorial Day Weekend. The atmosphere was crazy with teams battling for a spot in the Adidas Gauntlet Finale in Westchester, NY during the first live viewing period in July. I got a chance to see a few prospects who were standouts at the event.
2019 F Julius Marble: It was good to see Julius healthy and moving at 100 percent this weekend, he had been out since late December. He looks to have slimmed down some and is a legit 6'8 225lbs with little to no body fat. Marble was really good facing the basket and operated comfortably 17 feet and in. He showed athleticism blocking shots, running the floor and finishing above the rim.
2019 G Max Abmas: Max looked good as always this weekend. He made shots and played with a high IQ. He looked really good playing on the ball and made great reads in pick and roll. Abmas is a crafty guard who is quick in tight spaces and displays burst off the dribble. He gets into the paint because defenders have to honor his accuracy and range on his three point shot. Max has added some strength to his frame and it shows with his ability to finish in the paint.
2019 F Isaiah Lewis: Lewis looked good slashing to the rim, defending and his jump shot was really good this weekend. Lewis is a versatile player who can handle in the open floor, defend multiple spots and make jump shots out to the three point line. He is a long athlete that can really get out in transition and finish above the rim.
2019 C Sammie Freeman: Sam Freeman was his usual self blocking shots and rebounding at a high level. The 6'9 225lbs. C rebounds in and out of his area and has great timing and length that help him be a good shot blocker. Sam showed the ability to score over both shoulders with right and left hand jump hooks in the paint. Sam has a tremendous frame that can easily add another 20 pounds once he gets to college and runs the floor as well as any big in the city.
