TCU's team camp this weekend was a pleasant surprise. I got a chance to watch a tremendous matchup between Drive Nation 16's vs SA Hardwork 17's. Two of the best players in the country in 2020 playing opposite of each other and a host of other big time prospects as well.
Montreal Pena Jr: I've been fortunate to watch Montreal's growth as a prospect for the last 18 months. The first time I saw him he was playing with the Mansfield Trojans and he was oozing with upside and potential. Fast forward to now and he is no longer just a prospect with upside he's a legit high major player. His length, athleticism and added strength were all on display in this matchup. He seems to be more confident with the added weight. He blocked shots, rebounded, scored with his back to the basket and put a 7'0 and a 6'9 kid in the rim. He picked up an offer from TCU this weekend. Pena has as much upside as any prospect in the state in 2020. In what's shaping up to be a monster 2020 class in the state of Texas, Pena has a chance to be a top 5 prospect in the state when the dust settles.
Micah Peavy: Peavy is as good of an athlete as you will see on the wing in the 2020 class. He had at least 5 dunks in the contest. He is a big time slasher who made his fair share of mid range jumpers this weekend. He rebounded well and displayed a nice handle. He is a monster in transition running the floor and finishing above and through defenders. I haven't seen him a whole lot before this weekend, but I left very impressed with his game after viewing him. Peavy comes to DFW after being in Houston and slides right into the top tier of DFW 2020 prospects. Peavy holds a TCU offer amongst several others.
Cade Cunnigham: Cade continues to show he can play the PG position at a high level. His feel for the game, vision and unselfish play allows him to flourish as a playmaker for himself and his teammates. At times you want him to be selfish and score but he just plays the game the right way. He was tremendous in pick and roll and made all the right reads. Cade is a top 10 player in the country in 2020 and he was diving on the floor for loose balls and scrapping for rebounds like nobody knew who he was. Cade had one of the best months of June of any prospect in the country as he participated and played at a high level at Pangos All-American Camp, Nike Elite 100 and the NBA Top 100 Camp. Cunningham holds a TCU offer amongst several others.
Cody Collinsworth: Cody played as hard as I've seen him play this summer in this one. He had a few blocks, rebounded well and showed off a nice touch around the rim.
Jake Milkereit: Jake is healthy now and he looked very good in this game. He made jumpers, showed off a tight handle and played above the rim in transition. He is a high academic student that can really put the ball in the basket. Jake is definitely one to track over the next few years.
Jay Wilson: Jay has always been known as a prospect who is very good in transition and a big time athlete. Those two attributes remain the same and he is now showing off a nice jump shot. He made several jumpers out to the three point line and rebounded and guarded at a high level. His progression as a player is evident and he is one that should be tracked closely in July.
