Arlington Martin High School has a special talent walking their hallways right now. Montreal Pena Jr. has as much upside as as any 2020 prospect in the state of Texas. That is saying a mouthful because the 2020 class in Texas is as good as any state in the country. Several high major schools are beginning to take notice. Montreal was off the radar to many people and programs headed into the spring with Drive Nation's 16U team. It didn't take long at all for him to introduce himself to the city as a top prospect.
The 6'9 forward possesses attributes you just can't teach. He runs like a gazelle, has a 7'0 + wingspan, great hands and ELITE athleticism. Pena also has a soft touch out to about 17 feet that he's added to his game over the last few months. Right now he is an elite rim protector who can rim run and finish way above the rim.
Several schools have been in to see him this fall and are tracking his progress headed into his junior season. Pena currently holds offers from TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma St. Each one of those programs has made him a top priority in their 2020 class. I expect for his game and recruitment to continue to grow immensely over the next year. Pena is one of those rare prospects who combines immense potential with steady on court production. He affects the game using his length, athleticism and high motor. Pena is just scratching the surface of what he will be as a player, he will only continue to get better as a prospect.
